Biography
Prof Carlos Zubaran Jr is a Consultant Psychiatrist at Sunnyside Clinic. He holds conjoint professorial appointments with the School of Medicine and the Translational Health Research Institute at Western Sydney University.
Professor Zubaran graduated at UFRGS Faculty of Medicine, a centenarian and most reputable institution in Southern Brazil. After obtaining his specialty in Psychiatry and a PhD in Biological Sciences, he completed research programs at the Institute of Psychiatry and Maudsley Hospital in London (Behavioural Pharmacology), as well as postdoctoral programs at Columbia University and New York State Psychiatric Institute (Substance Use), at the International Center for Mental Health, at Elmhurst Hospital and the Mount Sinai School of Medicine (Cultural Psychiatry) and at the Epidemiology and Prevention Research Group at Washington University in St. Louis (Psychiatric Epidemiology). Prof Zubaran also obtained a Master’s Degree in Health Management from the University of New South Wales.
Professor Zubaran is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and a member of its Faculty of Addiction Psychiatry and Faculty of Adult Psychiatry. Professor Zubaran is a former board member of the World Association of Cultural Psychiatry (2022-2025). He has authored more than 100 publications including scientific manuscripts, research abstracts and book chapters. He was the recipient of the World Psychiatric Association International Fellowship Award (1996) and the US National Institute on Drug Abuse Distinguished International Scientist Award (2009).
