Dr Ettore Guaia is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with a special interest in neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly Autism Spectrum Disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) and Tourette Syndrome.
Dr Guaia has obtained his specialist credentials in Neuropsychiatry and Child Psychiatry in Palermo, Italy. Subsequently, Dr Guaia completed two Fellowship programs at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh, Scotland (1995) and St. George’s Hospital, London (1996).
Following a period of clinical practice with the National Health Service in Italy, Dr Guaia relocated to the United Kingdom where he worked as Consultant Psychiatrist in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with the Mental Health Services in South Essex and Hampshire, where he supervised specialised services for people with intellectual disabilities and mental health conditions.
Dr Guaia has also obtained research experience in ADHD at the Institute of Psychiatry at King’s College in London.
From January 2012 to September 2017, Dr Guaia worked as Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Princess Margaret Hospital, Perth, in the area of Paediatric Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, when he assessed and treat children and young people who presented with emotional difficulties in association with a variety of medical disorders.
In November 2017 Dr Guaia relocated to Sydney to establish a specialised service for intellectual disabilities and correlated mental health conditions at the Mental Health Drug and Alcohol Unit at Royal North Shore Hospital.
Dr Guaia has extensive experience in treating young people with chronic fatigue syndrome, chronic pain and other emotional difficulties. Furthermore, Dr Guaia has expertise in cases of children and adolescents who present with non-epileptic seizures, conversion disorders and emotional difficulties associated with chronic health problems as well as anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders.
Dr Guaia speaks English, and Italian and is available for telepsychiatry consultations as well.
